چکیده
Godfrey, S., and Mearns, M. (1971). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 46, 144. Pulmonary function and the response to exercise in cystic fibrosis. Results of physiological studies at rest and during exercise in 41 patients with cystic fibrosis of the lungs are presented. The patients were evenly distributed by age between 5 and 21 years, and were grouped into 3 clinical grades corresponding to mild, moderate, and fairly severe disease. There was a linear relation between tests of lung mechanics such as the FEV1 and the MVV and the clinical grading. These tests also correlated well with one another. Certain tests, notably those reflecting parenchymal damage such as the TLco showed

Maintaining Respiratory Health in Cystic Fibrosis Patients
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease that primarily affects the lungs and the digestive system, however, it also affects a number of other organs and systems. More than 90% of mortality of CF patients is due to lung complications. Healthy lungs are important for a long life for people with CF, We will discuss two important topics for maintaining respiratory health. Chronic use of drug...
متن کاملPositive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) versus Conventional Chest Physiotherapy in Pediatric Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Cystic Fibrosis
Background Pulmonary involvement is the main cause of mortality in cystic fibrosis (CF). Airway clearance techniques are non-pharmacological complement options for CF patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term outcome of airway cleaning treatment in patients with cystic fibrosis in a children's hospital. Materials and Methods This clinical trial study conducted on 40 CF pati...
متن کاملMolecular screening of R117H mutation in non caucasian cystic fibrosis patients in the north of Iran
Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive disease caused by a wide spectrum of mutations in the gene encoding for the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator protein. These mutations that correlate with different phenotypes, vary in their frequency and distribution in different populations. In this study missense mutation R117H that associated with the different clinical symptoms wa...
متن کاملExercise reduces airway sodium ion reabsorption in cystic fibrosis but not in exercise asthma.
When ventilating large volumes of air during exercise, airway fluid secretion is essential for airway function. Since these are impaired in cystic fibrosis and exercise-induced asthma, it was the aim of this study to determine how exercise affects airway Na(+) and Cl(-) transport and whether changes depend on exercise intensity. Nasal potential was measured in Ringer's solution, with amiloride ...
متن کاملAn exploratory study investigating factors associated with adherence to chest physiotherapy and exercise in adults with cystic fibrosis.
This study explored the relationship between psychological and demographic variables relating to chest physiotherapy (CP) and exercise in adults with cystic fibrosis. The main results were that adherence to both treatments was low and analysis of variance indicated that severity and gender were associated with exercise adherence, importance and burden. These results suggest potential areas for ...
متن کاملEffect of exercise on the nasal transmucosal potential difference in patients with cystic fibrosis and normal subjects.
BACKGROUND Normal subjects have a negative nasal transmucosal potential difference (TPD) at rest which becomes more negative with exercise. Patients with cystic fibrosis have a more negative resting nasal TPD than controls. The present study was designed to determine the effects of exercise on the TPD of patients with cystic fibrosis. METHODS Seven subjects with cystic fibrosis and seven cont...
